Spelling / Quiz &
Debate Club
Under these co-curricular activities, we inspire our students to join the School Spelling Bee competition, Debate and Quiz, primarily to provide them with a valuable educational experience; and support them to engage in healthy competition. Our debate activities improve students' ability to think critically and independently and discourage spoon-feeding them information in a passive way.
Spelling Bee
Students join the inter-class Spelling Bee competition, building mastery over vocabulary, pronunciation, word roots and etymology.
Quiz
Academic quiz activities strengthen general knowledge, enhance retention and develop a range of cognitive skills including handling pressure and better memory.
Debate
Debate improves students' ability to think critically and independently, organise thoughts, persuade and speak publicly with calm and confidence.
Through these activities, we develop our students in:
- Comprehensive learning process that expose them to the definition, pronunciation, and roots of the word.
- Understanding of essential critical-thinking and presentation skills including rational thinking, organization of thoughts, persuasion and public speaking.
- Gaining competency over vocabulary to excel at reading and writing, and enjoying reading an extensive range of material.
- Gaining greater knowledge in origin of a word and its etymology.
- A range of cognitive skills including the ability to handle pressure, and better memory and learning skills.
- Greater confidence to speak in public and address wider audience.
- Enhanced cognitive abilities and learning strategies.
- Understanding better perspective of life to connect and interact for mutual interest.
- Enhanced retention of topics studied and information learned.
